Osun 2026: Again, PDP, APC trade accusations, counter-accusations

APC and PDP

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has warned against purported violence, threats and reckless utterances among members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of their planned primary election slated for December 13.

The state chairman of the PDP, Sunday Bisi, in a statement expressed concern that the in-fighting within the APC is degenerating into physical attacks and public unrest, describing it as a dangerous development capable of undermining the peace and calm currently enjoyed by the people of the state.

The PDP said the situation in the Osun APC has clearly shown a total breakdown of leadership and internal discipline within the party.

“What is happening within the Osun APC today is not about democracy or service; it is a battle of desperation among politicians who have lost every sense of restraint and responsibility. Their public conduct has become a direct threat to the peace and stability of our dear state,” Bisi said.

The PDP, therefore, called on security agencies-  the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC – to remain vigilant and take immediate preemptive measures to avert further breakdown of law and order.

“Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has worked tirelessly to build a peaceful and inclusive Osun, and we will not allow a few loose cannons to destroy that legacy. The peace and safety of Osun people come first,” Bisi said. Reacting to the allegation, director of media and information of APC, Kola Olabisi, said the PDP was being haunted by the obvious maladministration which has become the hallmark of Governor Adeleke-led administration.

He said there was nothing under the sun that could have warranted the outburst contained in the PDP allegation where he falsely accused the APC chieftains and members of promoting crisis in the state.

Describing the allegation as a figment of the imagination of the peddlers, Olabisi said the records of violent incidents of PDP are numerous of which the latest was the arrest of a political thug of the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) extraction in Osogbo with two guns and several bullets few days ago.

“Has the conscienceless Osun State PDP chairman forgotten how all the elected political functionaries in his party stepped on the blood of no fewer than 30 innocent souls of the members and supporters of the APC out of which about 17 of them were killed in Ijesaland by the PDP thugs where Sunday Bisi hails from all in the desperation to rig the elections for the ruling party?

“We are yet to forget how one of our reinstated local government council chairmen, Remi Abass, was wickedly killed by the PDP hoodlums in Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state who are now standing trial in a competent court in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

“It is of a great concern that a supposed PDP chairman cannot differentiate between a constitutionally-allowed constructive criticism and promotion of crisis by an opposition which preoccupation is the criticism of the ruling party,” Olabisi said.
