The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Osun State, Olajide Esan, has strongly criticised his counterparts from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Ademola Adeleke; and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Najeem Salaam, for boycotting Saturday’s debate organised by the media.
Speaking to journalists following the collapse of the debate, Esan described such forums as vital democratic platforms where aspirants present their visions, defend their policies and answer critical questions from journalists and the citizens they aspire to lead.
“By refusing to participate, these candidates have demonstrated an unwillingness to subject themselves to public scrutiny. In our view, their absence speaks volumes. It suggests they lack the courage, competence, and preparedness required to govern Osun State.
“A candidate who cannot face the media and the electorate to explain their agenda cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the state. Leadership is about accountability, transparency, and the confidence to defend one’s ideas before the people. Running away from a debate is not leadership, it is an admission of unpreparedness,” Esan said.

The AAC flagbearer emphasised that the people of Osun deserve leaders who are ready to answer hard questions, defend their records and offer practical solutions to the state’s challenges, noting that democracy demands openness rather than avoidance.
Positioning his party as the premier alternative for the state, Esan declared: “The African Action Congress (AAC) stands as the credible and best alternative for a new Osun. Our vision is clear, practical, people-centered, and driven by innovation and accountability.”
He added that the choice before voters is stark: choosing between candidates who avoided scrutiny or backing a prepared and accountable alternative.
“We therefore call on all well-meaning citizens to reject the politics of avoidance and embrace a future built on competence, transparency, and courage by voting for the African Action Congress (AAC) in the forthcoming governorship election,” Esan added.
