Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has described striker Victor Osimhen as the best in the world.
Chelle said this after the Galatasaray striker grabbed a hat trick in Tuesday’s 4-0 thumping of Benin Republic, which sent the Super Eagles into the CAF Playoff Tournament for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With the spectacular result at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Nigeria will now compete in the four-nation play-off in Morocco.
Chelle praised the team’s doggedness and singled out Osimhen for his inspiring performance.

“I’m so proud of my players. They deserved this game because it was not easy with a new coach and a new philosophy to adapt to.
“So tonight I’m just happy for my players. They played a great game two hours ago, and they also played a great game three days ago,” he said.
On Osimhen, Chelle said, “I love him. He is the best striker in the world. But I’m proud of all the players because everybody brought something to this team.
“I’m especially proud of my captain because he scored a great penalty (in the last match). They all gave everything.”
Osimhen has now scored 29 goals in his 44 appearances for the Super Eagles and is closing in on all-time goalscorer, Rashidi Yekini, who got 37.
