Victor Osimhen has admitted that winning the Africa Cup of Nations would be one of the best moments of his career.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year is hoping to lead Nigeria to win their first Africa Cup of Nations title in eleven years at the ongoing tournament in Ivory Coast.
His performance in what was his starting debut at the AFCON was a mixed bag having a netted a crucial equalizer few minutes after underdogs Equatorial Guinea opened the scoring against the run of play, before missing two clear-cut chances.
Osimhen found himself down the pecking order of strikers in his first appearance at the AFCON back in 2019, with tournament’s top scorer with five goals Odion Ighalo and Paul Onuachu considered ahead of him.
The 25-year-old would have led the line for the Super Eagles at the 2021 AFCON but was forced to pull out of the squad due to a facial injury.
“It would be one of the best moments of my life,” Osimhen said to AFP, via France 24.
“I have done that with Napoli, I have made history, but no matter what I do, no matter how many goals I have scored, to be able to win the AFCON, I would go a long way in my life but probably when I do that I am done.
“I am really looking forward to winning something with the Super Eagles.”
Nigeria have relied on Osimhen for goals since the conclusion of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and he has delivered with 21 goals in 23 matches.
