Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is hopeful of recovering from a groin injury in time to feature for Galatasaray against Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League next week.
Osimhen sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir on Friday and was substituted in the 33rd minute after experiencing discomfort.
The Nigerian had earlier put Galatasaray ahead with a superb finish into the top corner after being set up by Lucas Torreira before the injury forced him out of the game.
Despite the setback, Osimhen played down fears over his fitness and expressed his desire to return against Sporting Lisbon if he receives clearance from the club’s medical and coaching teams.

“I have nothing, I didn’t want to risk myself. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field,” Osimhen said.
Galatasaray subsequently confirmed that strain and pain had been detected in the striker’s right adductor muscle group, with treatment immediately commenced.
The Turkish champions said further medical examinations, including an MRI scan, were being carried out on Osimhen and teammate Mario Lemina, with the assessments expected to be completed on Sunday.
Osimhen’s availability for the Champions League encounter will depend on the outcome of the medical assessments and his recovery in the coming days, while his fitness will also be monitored by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
