Super Eagle striker Victor Osimhen declined to wear the captain’s armband during Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against French opponents Rennes in a pre-season friendly staged at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park on Sunday.
Galatasaray took the lead from a corner as Gabriel Sara delivered an inviting cross into the box, where Osimhen rose highest to power a header into the net.
There was a brief on-field incident involving the captain’s armband in the second half of the friendly.
Galatasaray’s substantive captain Abdülkerim Bardakcı was substituted in the 74th minute.

In a video after Bardakcı was leaving the pitch, he handed the captain’s armband to Osimhen, indicating he wanted him to become captain for the remainder of the match.
Osimhen declined to wear it and instead took the armband to Yunus Akgün, suggesting that the attacking midfielder should captain the team instead.
Akgün was surprised by Osimhen’s decision and tried to persuade him to wear the armband, but the former African Footballer of the Year still refused.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk previously revealed that he wants Osimhen to be one of the club’s captains for the upcoming season following Mauro Icardi’s departure.
