Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has given the Chinese firm, CGGC, two weeks ultimatum to complete the remaining 2.6 kilometers portion of the 36 km Igbor – Wannune road project or be sanctioned.
The Governor who inspected the road project on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction with over the handling of construction work on the road which was approved by his predecessor, former, Governor Gabriel Suswam seven years ago at the cost of N2.6 billion.
He regretted that work on the road project had lingered for too long, even as he described the delay in the completion of work on the project as unacceptable.
The Governor who lamented that despite paying the contractors about 80 percent of the total sum, they were yet to compete work on the project, however advised that the road be given another coat, to make it more durable.
“I want to register my disappointment on this project, because they (contractors) have overstayed in constructing a road of 36 kilometres, from Igbor to Wannune for seven years.
“This road is not even asphalt. This is surface dressing; one and two, so there is no explanation for the delay and government has paid more than 80% of the total sum.

“Six years ago, I’ve been on this road. So, this is not acceptable and the quality of work that is being done too, I’m totally not satisfied with it. I look forward that they will improve on the quality of work.
“So I’m giving them two weeks to complete the job, because what is left now is just 2.6 kilometres.
The Governor also inspected some road projects including, Aper Aku road, Shaahu road as well as the construction work on the Tor Tiv’s palace
in the Gboko metropolis.
He promised to construct befitting palaces for all the first class and second traditional rulers in the area before the end of his tenure in 2023.
Highpoint of the working tour is the prayer session for Governor Ortom at the remodelled by the Tiv Traditional Council led by the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof. James Ayatse at the Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko, the ancestral home of the Tiv Nation.
