In an effort to inspire grassroots footballers, organizers of the annual Odunmbaku Gold Cup, has called for clubs registration ahead of the 2nd edition slated for August 29th, 2024.
The tourney known for its knock-out format, announced registration forms are up for grabs from today till 20th of August before staging a draw ceremony on a yet to be announced date.
Expressing readiness ahead of the championship named after APC chieftain, Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, chairman, organising committee, Prince Sulaimon Gbadamosi popularly known as Prince GAS, disclosed that eight venues across Lagos will host the male category while the female category will be in four venues.
Prince GAS hinted further that eye-popping prizes will be awarded to winners after revealing that the defending champions, Buckner FC was handed a mini bus during the previous edition while other participants bagged goodies for a job well done.
In his words: ’ I’m using this medium to call out all stakeholders in Lagos grassroots football to come and obtain their form. The much awaited Odunmbaku Cup is here again and centres namely Igando, Egan, Ejigbo, Ikorodu, Badagry, Mushin, Ebute Metta, Oshodi and Ijaye Ojokoro will be hosting the male category. Aside Ikorodu and Epe, we shall also be expanding the female set with a venue in Sango Ota, Ogun State and Epe, Lagos. The draw date will be communicated shortly after sales of forms. I urged everyone to keep fingers crossed as we embark on the planning.’ he stated.
Meanwhile, Philanthropist, Iyk Madu Obi and Mr Fruit PLC are poised to render morale and financial support ahead of the soccer fiesta which is expected to welcome 96 teams within 50 local government development areas across Lagos and other parts of the country.
