OPWS closes Basic Drone Operation and Jammer System training in Makurdi

The Force Commander Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has officially closed the Basic Drone Operation and Jammer System training in Makurdi the Benue state capital.

The training was organized for officers and soldiers within OPWS Area of Responsibility.

During the ceremony which held on at the Joe Akaahan Cantonment, Makurdi, the Special Guest of Honour, Major General Gara emphasized the importance of the training in enhancing operational efficiency, particularly in the areas of force protection, surveillance, search and rescue.

He noted that with the newly acquired drone capability, troops can now identify objects and monitor activities from a distances of over 3000 meters, thereby providing a decisive edge in confronting adversaries.

He said “There are criminals in our society who continually engage in activities that threaten peace and security, leading to needless loss of innocent lives. With these drones, we can effectively identify their hideouts and take appropriate action.”

He urged the participants to apply the skills learned in their daily operations to consolidate the operational successes already recorded by OPWS.

Gara expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for approving both the issuance of drones and the conduct of the training.

He also commended the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), the Chief of Training (Army), and the Commander Nigerian Army Space Command, Major General UG Ogeleka, for mobilizing a team of instructors on short notice while and the Commander 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 OPWS, Colonel Kolawole Bukoye, for hosting the event, as well as the instructors for their dedication.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating students, Captain OJ Abua expressed gratitude to the Force Commander for providing them with such a valuable training opportunity, assuring that the knowledge gained will be applied effectively in the field.
