Opposition underestimated Tinubu’s political experience, leadership – Alawuje

The National Coordinator of Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has said opposition groups have underestimated President Bola Tinubu’s political experience, leadership capacity and resilience, insisting that the President remains well-positioned to secure another term in office.

Alawuje, who spoke under the platform of the Disciples of Jagaban, described President Tinubu as “an uncommon catalyst for democratic consolidation, national development and institutional reforms”, expressing confidence that his administration would leave a lasting legacy for Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to shift attention from partisan political comparisons and focus on the country’s long-term development and democratic stability.

“The opposition has underestimated President Tinubu’s political experience, leadership capacity and resilience,” Alawuje said.

He added, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an uncommon catalyst for democratic consolidation, national development and institutional reforms. His leadership will leave a lasting legacy for both present and future generations.”

According to Alawuje, no opposition group currently presents a stronger democratic alternative capable of preventing President Tinubu’s re-election.

“Nigerians should move beyond endless political comparisons and focus on the country’s long-term progress. At this moment, no opposition group presents a stronger democratic alternative capable of preventing President Tinubu’s re-election,” he said.

Alawuje argued that the nation’s current political climate has made it difficult for some citizens to appreciate the importance of unity and collective nation-building.

“Our current political climate has made it difficult for some Nigerians to appreciate the importance of unity and collective nation-building. Well-meaning citizens must continue advocating peace, national cohesion and mutual understanding across all regions of the country,” he stated.

Defending the administration’s reform agenda, he said President Tinubu was deliberately pursuing policies aimed at promoting inclusiveness while addressing long-standing structural challenges.

“President Tinubu’s administration is making deliberate efforts to ensure every region of Nigeria has a sense of belonging. While no leader is infallible, genuine efforts to correct long-standing national imbalances should be encouraged rather than condemned,” he said.

Alawuje maintained that meaningful reforms often attract resistance but insisted that countries committed to progress must remain focused on long-term goals.

“Progressive nations do not abandon meaningful reforms simply because they are difficult. President Tinubu has demonstrated determination in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy, while opposition politicians should present constructive alternatives through democratic engagement rather than persistent political confrontation,” he said.

Describing Tinubu as “a blessing to Nigeria at a critical period in the country’s history”, Alawuje said many political actors had chosen unnecessary political battles instead of offering practical solutions to national problems.

He identified insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, economic sabotage and the cumulative effects of decades of governance deficiencies as Nigeria’s major challenges.

“These challenges did not begin with the present administration, but President Tinubu is committed to addressing them through long-term structural reforms,” he said.

Alawuje further called on political, traditional and community leaders across the country to work with the Federal Government by proposing practical policy solutions to regional challenges instead of positioning entire regions against the administration.

He noted that sustainable national development could only be achieved through unity, shared sacrifice and visionary leadership, adding that history would remember the Tinubu administration for taking “difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest.”

He also prayed for Almighty Allah to grant President Tinubu wisdom, strength and good health in the discharge of his constitutional responsibilities, while praying for lasting peace, unity, security and prosperity for Nigeria.
