Forty-six students have secured scholarships to study various degree programmes at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) for the 2026/2027 academic session under the Omega Power Ministries (OPM) University Scholarship scheme, extending the church’s 16-year drive to make university education accessible to underprivileged Nigerians.
The scholarship letters were presented by the founder and General Overseer of OPM, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, at his residence in Port Harcourt on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Speaking during the presentation, Apostle Chinyere reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to education for poor and underprivileged Nigerians, saying the ministry would continue to support students whose financial circumstances might otherwise prevent them from pursuing university education.
He explained that the latest scholarship awards covered only students admitted to the University of Port Harcourt, stressing that OPM had also extended educational support to beneficiaries studying at other universities and institutions across Nigeria.
“This particular scholarship today is just for students in UNIPORT alone. We have offered scholarships to students in other universities like Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Ignatius Ajuru University, the University of Calabar, Abia State University, Niger Delta University and colleges of nursing sciences,” he said.
For the past 16 years, OPM has maintained a scholarship programme aimed at helping financially disadvantaged Nigerians gain access to education locally and abroad.
The ministry’s overseas scholarship scheme has supported beneficiaries studying at universities in Turkey, Poland, Cyprus, Canada, the United States, Germany and the Republic of Benin.
Since the programme began, more than 10,000 Nigerians have benefited from the initiative, with many continuing their education under its support.
The scholarship scheme covers tuition fees, accommodation and other related expenses, helping to ease the financial burden on students and their families.
According to Apostle Chinyere, the programme is funded through tithes and offerings contributed by members of the church, which are used to sustain its educational interventions and other humanitarian initiatives.
