Opay reiterates commitment to Nigerian economy, earmarks N1.2bn for education empowerment

In a bid to support Nigeria’s economy blossom, a new generation financial institution, Opay said it has set aside a 10 – year N1.2 billion scholarship plan for 420 outstanding Nigerian students to further their education.

The Financial institution affirmed that the plan was part of its corporate social responsibility commitment to Nigeria as it invest N120 million annually across 20 tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the Empowering Futures Conference in Lagos, Opay Executive Director/Chief Commercial Officer – Nigeria, Elizabeth Wang, said OPay does not define true success by innovation in technology and Financial services, but the company lives in the impact it creates in the society. “This belief shapes everything we do and guides our vision to become the most respected and popular financial technology company that actively creates social value”

Wang explained that the company embarked on the decade-Long Journey in 2024 with purpose: To expand Access to eucation, to Unlock Opportunities, and to empower the next Generation of Leaders. “Today, we proudly mark the completion of our First Year. A Year Filled with inspiring stories of resilience, excellence, and Renewed Hope.

“In this first year, OPay disbursed N126 Million to 420 Students across 20 institutions nationwide, providing each with #300,000 in educational support”

The Executive Director who confirmed that the process of selecting beneficiary institutions was transparent, maintained that Opay would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that it add value to not only customers, but the environment and Nigerians at large.

“Our purpose, our delivery, and the futures already set in motion. the road ahead is long, rich with possibility. For the next nine years and beyond, Opay remains steadfast in its mission to impact lives and empower Nigeria’s future” she assured.

Reacting, representatives from the 20 Universities and Polytechnics across Nigeria and students alike took their turns to appreciate Opay, as each avowed to make judicious use of the opportunity for themselves and Nigerian economy in the long run.

The benefiting institutions are: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, University Of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Obafemi Awolowo University, lle-Ife, Osun State, University Of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State, Federal University Of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Benue State University, Makurdi, Benue State, University Of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State.

Others are: Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, University Of Abuja, Abuja, FCT, University Of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Federal University Of Health Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nasarawa State, University Of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Borno State, University Of Jos, Jos, Plateau State, Bayero University, Kano, Kano State, University Of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, and Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos State.
