No fewer than 115 students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, would be conferred with first class honours next week.

The Vice Chancellor of OOU, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, said the university would graduate 6,209 in different fields of study at the 34th convocation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session.

He revealed that the overall best graduating student is Aishat Daudu Anuoluwapo with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.87 from the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The VC disclosed that the convocation ceremonies would start on Friday,  January 24 with a health walk, agriculture and engineering show and jumaat service.

Students would be conferred with first degrees on Wednesday, January 29 to 30 while on Friday, January 31, conferment of postgraduate degrees, honorary degree, award of prizes, commissioning of projects and convocation lecture, titled: TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures and the Future and guest speaker is Mr. Sonny Echono, executive secretary of TETFund.

Prof. Agboola disclosed that the university would confer honorary degree of Doctor of Science on acclaimed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Chief Medical Director, Eye Foundation Hospital Group, Dr. Adekunle Olubola Hassan on Friday, January 31.

The VC said OOU has added 20 new programmes to its pool of academic disciplines, thus increasing the options available to students, adding, “we have also maintained full accreditation status in all our programmes.”

He highlighted some achievements recorded by the university and lauded the continued support received from the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Alhaji Suleiman Adebola Adegunwa and other philanthropists.
