The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye has faced criticism on social media following a viral video showing some female students being checked for bras before being admitted into examination hall.
The video which trended on Tuesday apparently captures the moment the students queued for inspection by unidentified officials before being granted entrance into the venue of a computer-based test.
While some of the inspected students can be seen laughing off the exercise, others appear to show they there uncomfortable with it.
However, many Nigerians condemned the incident, stating that it was a form of harassment and academic overreach.
National Public Relations Officer of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Samson Ajasa Adeyemi disclosed that he was informed that no student missed the exam due to the ugly incident.
He praised the student union body of the institution for doing “the needful”, noting that the female official of the institution that led the exercise “acted beyond what the school set as decent dressing.”
Adeyemi said the school management has promised that the situation would not be repeated.
Taking to Facebook, Ibe Onyebuchi Sunday, said, “What does bra has to do with writing exams. Nija I hail thee.”
Confidence Onyebuenyi said, “What’s the relationship between bra and exam.”
Tammy Joshua said, “Will they use the bra to write exams too?”
Bello Bidemi said, “I am for decency. However, the management has gone overboard checking for bra.
“What if she can’t afford one? This is indecent trying to poke nose into their personal life.
“Moreover, this is supposedly university, where there is freedom to impregnate a woman or get impregnated.
“If you have such liberty, then where did the management derive such powers searching bra?”
Meanwhile, some netizens backed the university over the move.
Solomon Kemi Adeniji said, “A welcome development. Some of these girls are turning to something else.”
Olubunmi Olumuyiwa said, “If there’s a dress code policy, then it should be respected.
“I saw the video on X. A female security officer and another woman were inspecting the ladies as they filed to write their exams. Nothing new there.
“I was expecting a video showing harassment based on what I read, but what I saw was descent.
“OOU has a dress code policy and they are serious about it. That, I know for sure.”
