Ife Traditional Council has called on workers in Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service to rally behind the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Olumuyiwa Abel, warning that the success of his administration would depend largely on unity of purpose and collective commitment among public servants.
The call was made on Monday when a delegation representing the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, paid a courtesy visit to Abel in Abuja to congratulate him on his appointment, according to Director of Press and Public Relations, Eno Olotu.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Her Regal Majesty, Olori Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi, described Abel as a “purpose-driven and accomplished public servant”, urging officers and staff of the Federal Civil Service to give him the support required to translate his vision into tangible reforms.
She said sustainable institutional transformation could not be achieved by the head of an organisation alone, stressing that teamwork, unity and dedication remained critical to strengthening the civil service.
Olori Ogunwusi expressed confidence that the new HCSF had the capacity to provide transformative leadership and reposition the Federal Civil Service in line with the aspirations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The intervention by the traditional institution comes at a time when the Federal Government is placing renewed emphasis on strengthening public institutions, improving service delivery and building a more responsive civil service.
Receiving the delegation, Abel said the visit was significant not only because it marked a gesture of goodwill from the Ooni following his appointment, but also because it reinforced the important place of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s efforts to build a cohesive society.
The HCSF acknowledged Ile-Ife as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation and praised traditional institutions for their continuing role in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, promoting peace and fostering community development.
He said the Federal Civil Service was committed to maintaining constructive engagement with traditional institutions as key stakeholders in the country’s socio-cultural development.
According to him, effective governance and improved public service delivery require collaboration beyond government offices, with traditional institutions and other stakeholders playing complementary roles in strengthening national cohesion.
Abel further pledged that the civil service under his leadership would support the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through improved governance, stronger institutions and better public service delivery.
He said building a resilient public service required “sustained collaboration, collective responsibility and a shared commitment to national development.”
The HCSF also commended the Ooni for what he described as his fatherly, inclusive and visionary leadership, particularly his efforts to promote Nigeria’s interests both within the country and among Nigerians in the diaspora.
Earlier, Olori Ogunwusi conveyed the Ooni’s warm regards to Abel and expressed appreciation for the reception accorded the delegation.
The delegation included the Onifegunwa of Ifegunwa, Oba Adedire Adewole Solomon, and the Yeye Bobajiro Oodua, Dr. Yeye Afolashade Shona-Aluko.
