Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Air Peace Airlines, Dr. Allen Onyema, will tomorrow chair the 23rd edition of The Sun Awards.
Thirty-six Nigerians and two corporate organisations will be honoured with different categories of awards at an elaborate ceremony holding at the Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to a statement by the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, The Sun Publishing Limited, Onuoha Ukeh, Dr. Onyema will pilot the affairs at the event which will be carried live television stations.
He said that the Air Peace CEO, in accepting the role, noted that he is a past recipient of The Sun Award.
The Sun MD said that President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau; Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), Bassey Otu (Cross River) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), as well as ministers and other dignitaries have confirmed their attendance.
The Sun Awards 2025 is at its 23rd edition, with the theme as: “Celebrating Uncommon Achievers.”
Winners of the awards are Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah; Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso and Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun West (Man of the Year).
Governor of the Year Award winners are Gov Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State), Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano State) and Gov Bassey Otu (Cross River), with Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, wife of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, winning First Lady of the Year.
Other winners are Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as Minister of the Year; Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as Political Personality of the Year and Bishop Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, winning Courage in Leadership award.

Lifetime Achievement Award winners are: Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Olubadan of Ibadanland; Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Presiding Bishop, The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM); Enyinnaya Abaribe, senator representing Abia South; Alhaji Buba Galadima, former Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Chief Simeon Eyisi, Chairman/CEO, SIMS Nigeria Limited.
HRH Igwe Kenneth Orizu 111, Igwe of Nnewi Kingdom, is the Most Outstanding Royal Father of the Year, while Humanitarian Service Icon award goes to Sen. Jubrin Barau, Deputy Senate President and Chief Obioma Success Akagburuonye, CEO, Praco International Limited.
Bank of the Year award winners is Zenith Bank Plc, while Banker of the Year goes to Mr. Emmanuel Efe Emefienim, MD, Premium Trust Bank Plc and Opay Digital Services Limited emerging as Digital/Fintech Bank of the Year.
The Investor of the Year award winners are Chief Andrew Oru, Chairman, Rojitel Group; Dr. Julius Rone, CEO, UTM Offshore Limited; and Engr. Oguchi Emeka, Chairman/CEO, Point Technologies Ltd.
Entrepreneur of the Year award goes to Prince Charles Ezeagwu, CEO, Charzin Group; Mr. Olasunkanmi Owoyemi, Chairman, Sunbeth Global Concepts Limited; Chief Mike Duru Ejiogu, CEO, Citygate Group and Chief Eric Opah, CEO, Fortune Global.
Mr John Ezeobi, Chairman, Zobis Cable Nigeria Limited, High Chief Chibuike Peter Orogwu, founder/CEO, Chuby-Zion Nigeria Ltd; and Chief Emeka Agbanari, Chairman Seaman Group, are winners of Industrialist of the Year, while Dr. Maxwell Nweze, Chairman, Seman Global Concept Limited, is winner of Real Estate Icon award.
Dr. Emeka Agbasi, MD/CEO, Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Prof Stella Ifeanyi Smith, Director of Research, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research are winners of Public Service Personality award, with Mr. Paul Onwuanibe, CEO, Landmark Africa Group, owners of Landmark Hotel & Resorts and Chief Livinus Anigbogu, CEO, AG Lexon Nig. Limited, owners of Villa Park Hotel & Suites, emerging as winners of Hospitality Icon award.
Kenneth Okonkwo, actor, film producer and public speaker, is winner of Nollywood Icon Award, with Young Achievers award going to Mrs. Onyeka Michael-Ugwu, Founder, Hello Perfect and Mr. Tunde Onakoya, founder, Chess in Slum Africa.
