Onyedika loses Club Brugge place

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika may well have lost his place in the Starting XI at Club Brugge as they battle to be champions in Belgium again.

Onyedika has only played as a late sub in his team’s last two Championship Playoff games.

In his place, Hugo Vetlesen has shone brightly.

According to Franky Van der Elst, Vetlesen’s role has been crucial in recent weeks.

“He has displaced Raphaël Onyedika from the starting lineup, I definitely think so,” he stated on Sporza.

“He can score, make runs, and be dangerous.”

According to analysts, Club Brugge’s midfield needed more offensive impetus. In matches where Club dominates Vetlesen provides that extra weapon.

Van der Elst said he has found it striking how his situation has evolved.

“He was sidelined for a while, actually even put in the background a bit,” he said.

Gilles Mbiye-Beya also said that Vetlesen has earned his place. Due to the need to pick up points, he seems like the ideal player to start matches. Additionally, he praises coach Ivan Leko.

“It was a good and smart move to make substitutes important again,” he said.
