It is a day another star was discovered, as debutant Paul Onwuachu not only scored his first in Nigeria’s colour, but got perhaps Super Eagles fastest goal in just the 40th seconds at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Hardly had the referee signalled for the start of the game, when Alex Iwobi flipped a pass to Onwuachu, who pulled the trigger to the top angle for the goal.

The bewildered Egyptians tried to balance the scoreline with fast paced attacking forays into the Super Eagles defence, but the pair of William Ekong and Leon Balogun checked their advances on several attempts.

From the first quarter of the game, the Super Eagles took control of the match, with Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Iwobi and John Ogu criss-crossing passes to force the Egyptians to withdraw to their guard.

Iwobi almost double the lead for Nigeria, but on a one-on-one situation, he played to the waiting hands of goalkeeper Abdeheim Mahmoud.

The Egyptians came out strongly in the second half, but only got an 80th minute opportunity to level scores through Hamed Tarek’s blinder, but Nigeria substitute goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa was alert to make the save.
