The Onikate of Ikate Surulere, Oba Lateef Atanda Adams, has announced plans to confer the traditional title of Okanlomo Ikate Surulere on Lagos businessman and hospitality entrepreneur Rilwan Bamgbala.
Bamgbala’s wife, Mrs. Oluwadamilola Bamgbala, will also receive the title of Yeye Okanlomo Ikate Surulere.
The installation ceremony is scheduled to hold at the Ikate Surulere Palace on July 22, as part of activities marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary.
Other individuals are also expected to be honoured during the event.
Oba Adams said Bamgbala was selected in recognition of his contributions to business development and employment creation within Surulere through his hospitality ventures.
According to the monarch, the palace council approved the conferment after considering Bamgbala’s role in promoting economic activities in the community.
The title Okanlomo, which in Yoruba tradition signifies a person held in high esteem by the community, is regarded as one of the notable honorary titles in Ikate Surulere.
Bamgbala is known for his hospitality businesses in Surulere, including Blueroom Lounge, and was recently appointed Director for Special Duties of the Lagos State chapter of the CityBoy Movement.
He is also associated with the Rilwan Bamgbala Foundation, which supports community-based charitable initiatives.
The palace said the chieftaincy installation forms part of the activities lined up to commemorate Oba Adams’ decade on the throne and to recognise individuals considered to have contributed to the development of Ikate Surulere and its environs.
