As part of the activities marking his first year in office, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has set free no fewer than 30 Inmates at the Old and the medium Correctional Centres in Minna, the Niger Capital
The Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman announced the payment of fines for the 30 inmates on Tuesday during a visit to both centres as part of activities to mark his one year in office.
He also presented drugs and food items which include bags of rice, beans, maize among others to the officials of the centre to cushion the effects of economic Hardship.
He said the essence of the visits and donations was to allow the inmates feel sense of belonging and therefore urged all the freed inmates to return to the society and be good ambassadors of the state and the country at large
According to him “Thirty people have been penciled down for clemency. We consider those whose cases were minor and their fines would be paid. He had recently also approved payment of fine for 100 inmates and that had been done. We also brought food, drugs and other items”.
Bago said the freed inmates would also be empowered with skills in agriculture and other entrepreneurship to make them productive members of the society.
