One person has been killed and about ten houses burnt in Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege Community, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The crisis allegedly erupted between the people of Omege Agalagu and Ukwuinyima.

Many people sustained varying degrees of injuries after suspected hoodlums attacked the community.

Sources said the crisis stemmed from a fight that occurred in November 2024 when they buried a woman who was allegedly raped and killed.

“More than 10 houses and property worth millions of naira have been burnt to ashes. The government needs to do something,” one of the sources said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed that one person was killed in the incident.

He explained that two youths from the two communities fought, and one of them from Omege was stabbed and later died in hospital.

“His death led to members of his community attacking Omege and burning down some mud houses with thatch roofs.

“But Police mobilised and stopped them from inflicting further damage. The crisis has been curtailed at the moment,” Ukandu stated.

He noted that police were maintaining order in the area and had also launched an investigation.

He said the man who stabbed the deceased victim had also been arrested.
