Ten students and three adults were allegedly abducted along the Awon-Kachia road in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday, April 26.

The incident reportedly occurred when armed men intercepted a vehicle conveying students, who were returning to their various schools after visiting home to restock food and other basic items at the weekend, and other passengers heading towards Kachia.

A credible source who spoke in confidence said three of the students who escaped, narrated how the victims were taken during the attack.

Unfortunately, the source added that one student, Purity Babangida, was reported to have died while attempting to escape from her abductors.

Those abducted include
Augustina Muntari (SS2), GSS Gumel; Happy Muntari (JS2), GSS Gumel; Favour Tanimu (JS2), GSS Kachia; Patience Joseph (JS2), GSS Kachia.

Others are Peace Irimiya, St. John’s School, Kachia; Bishara Irimiya, St. John’s School, Kachia; Irimiya Galadima (driver); Fatu Danladi (adult); and Laraba Caleb (adult).

“This unfortunate development is a big set back on the ongoing girls’ education campaign especially in northern Nigeria where cultural beliefs and insecurity are now the order of the day,” the source decried.

As of the time of filing this report, the abductors have yet to contact the victims’ families.

The Kaduna State Police Command and the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs have not issued an official statement on the incident as of the press time.
