A legal practitioner and tax expert, Olugbuyiro Akindele Akinola, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, pledging to bring competence, accountability and technical expertise to legislative duties.

Akinola is seeking to represent the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, Ondo State, positioning himself as a candidate driven by professional experience and a commitment to result-oriented representation.

Currently serving as a part-time Commissioner at the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he said his decision to enter the race was informed by a desire to strengthen governance through informed law-making and effective constituency service.

In his campaign messages delivered through public engagements and online platforms, Akinola called for a shift from what he described as “routine representation” to a more purposeful and impact-driven approach in the National Assembly.

He argued that Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges require lawmakers with a solid grasp of legal, financial and regulatory systems, noting that his background equips him to contribute meaningfully to national development.

“Representation must go beyond mere presence in the legislature and translate into measurable impact on the lives of constituents,” he said.

He is the founding partner of Stonewaters Law Office, where he has handled complex financial and regulatory transactions, including cross-border financing and structured deals.

Akinola said his campaign would focus on improving the quality of legislation, strengthening oversight functions and ensuring that government policies deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

He identified accountability, fiscal responsibility and economic development as key priorities, stressing the need for lawmakers to play a more active role in scrutinising public spending and ensuring efficient use of resources.

He also emphasised the importance of laws that support business growth, attract investment and create employment, particularly for young people.
