The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned residents against consumption of bread being allegedly distributed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).
In a statement issued in Akure by the Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation and signed by Mr. Kayode Fasua, the organisation said: “The bread has so far landed many of its consumers in hospitals, with the possibility that some persons had died in the process.”
The campaign organisation said: “Microbiologists, who had put the bread to test found that it contained potassium bromide, which can result in cancer or cause instant stomach rumbling that can lead to untimely death.”
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to the circulation of loaves of bread by agents of the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Akeredolu. Though there is nothing bad in distributing bread more so that under the APC national administration, life has become unbearable for the common people, our major concern now is that the loaves of bread being distributed are killer-loaves; they are contaminated.
“Microbiologists have moved in and found that the loaves of bread are poisonous. It was found that they contained potassium bromide, which the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had long alerted Nigerians to avoid.
“Apart from the fact that this APC bread can cause cancer, it has also resulted in many cases of serious stomach rumbling, which may have by now resulted in some deaths.
“The Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party, as such, urges residents of the state to reject bread and instead, advise Akeredolu to state how he is going to create wealth from a party that has impoverished Nigerians.
The Jegede campaign organisation added that its principal, Jegede, long before now, had drawn a blueprint for the socio-economic development of the state, building on the achievements of successive administrations.
But the Akeredolu Campaign Organisation urged the people of the state to discountenance the PDP, claiming that it was not aware of any bread in circulation.
Spokesperson of the organisation, Mr Yemi Awolabi, said: “ We are not the bakers of any bread and we are not aware of such development.”
Group accuses Aregbesola of financing Oke’s election
A group, Osun Youths Movement, has accused Governor Rauf Aregbesola of bankrolling the election expenses of the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy in Ondo State, Olusola Oke, in the November 26 governorship poll. In a statement in Osogbo by the coordinator of the group, Yusuf Olaosebikan, it accused Aregbesola of diverting the meagre resources of the state “to feather his expansionist political agenda” in other states while the state workers suffered from months of unpaid salaries, even as physical infrastructure also collapsed “because of lack of focus and reckless ambition” by the governor.
The group also warned the Federal Government against granting further bailout to the state until Aregbesola was able to explain how he spent the earlier cash meant to offset several months of unpaid salaries.
“It is heart-warming that the Senate Committee on Local Government is set to investigate Governor Aregbesola on how he spent the last bail-out meant for salary payment, which the governor failed to comply with. We alerted Osun people then that we had information that the governor was more concerned about his political fortunes than the welfare of Osun people, particularly the civil servants.
“Aregbe started his expansionist idea when he started funding Mr. Ayodele Fayose’s election with the state’s fund in 2014 to cause the defeat of his own party, APC, in Ekiti State. After succeeding in helping Fayose, Nigerians can now see that their friendship has blossomed with Aregbe, holding secret meetings with Fayose and at present extending his tentacles to Ondo State. This time around too, helping another party, AD, to defeat his own party to consolidate on his plans for a new party where he can wield enough influence,” the group alleged.
It advised all well meaning indigenes of the state to caution the state governor against the continued spending of the state’s money to fund elections in other states.
“We can no longer continue to watch the governor, spending our scarce resources to recklessly finance the elections of his political associates in other states in pursuit of personal ambition.
“Monday’s hiring of more than 300 buses in Osogbo and environs to ferry hired people to Ondo State for Olusola Oke’s campaign rally will no longer be tolerated because the governor cannot be pursuing his personal political ambition while our people suffer,” the group warned.
