A senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim, has dismissed speculations that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the candidate of the party.
He spoke when he returned his expression of interest and nomination forms to the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, yesterday.
“It is stupid to say you are looking for endorsement. Politics is about democracy and democracy is about number. It is wrong for somebody to sit down and want to be endorse. That is not realistic.
“Was Tinubu endorsed? At the end of the day, he won the election with no endorsement from anybody, you believe is your turn is your turn. As I am leaving here by Monday, I am paying N140 million to the party for 100,000 delegates membership form.”
He also boasted that he is not threatened in anyway by the power of incumbency.
“Even when former governor Rotimi Akerodolu was alive he gave me my own respect. Is it Aiyedatiwa that I will be afraid of? Aiyedatiwa is my friend, I have nothing against him, but it is just that he should do his one year and disappear.”
He also dismissed insinuations of an agreement with Olusola Oke, saying: “Oke is not qualified to step down for me in any race, including governance. I don’t even want anybody to step down for me in any race, you buy the forms we go to the field. He didn’t support me with one naira, but if you are sure of yourself, why hide under disguise.”
Asked how he intends to fight the incessant clash between farmers and Fulani herdsmen, Ibrahim said: “I will fortify Amotekun. There is an app from Russia you can use to tackle insecurity… There are apps that can detects insecurity and crimes, this are what I will deploy. I will use app to dislodge insecurity. Modern security require this artificial intelligence to combat insecurity.
“Today, security is about having the right app to manage the situation, when I become the governor I will use the military jets to fly drones around for intense security,” he said.
