Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed profound grief over the tragic crash involving a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in which 32 persons were killed.

The military plane, with tail number NGR 931, crashed in a swampy area near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday morning, resulting in the loss of military personnel and other lives.

Mutfwang described the incident as a painful tragedy and a monumental loss to the nation, particularly at a time when the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces continue to make immense sacrifices in the service of Nigeria and in the defence of its peace, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor said the death of the personnel and other victims represents a grievous national loss, coming at a moment when the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies remain steadfast in confronting threats to national security and safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of citizens.

He commended the fallen personnel for their courage, patriotism and selfless commitment to duty, noting that their sacrifices exemplify the highest ideals of service to country and humanity.

Mutfwang extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims, praying that Almighty God will grant them the strength, comfort and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He also conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the entire Nigerian people over this tragic incident.

Governor Mutfwang, on behalf of the government and people of Plateau State, extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He prayed that Almighty God will give comfort to the grieving families, grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families and colleagues the fortitude to bear this tragic and irreparable loss.
