Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has condemned the attack on the one million-man-march organised by the Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Uvwie Local Government Area.
In a statement, he described the attack, which occurred during the march led by the party’s governorship candidate, Chris Iyovwaye, as violent and unprovoked.
Giving a sequence of events, he claimed the march was initially scheduled to take off from Angle Park in Warri South, but participants were asked to leave by persons he identified as the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters.
He further claimed that after moving to the Total Fuel Station area in Warri following discussions with the police, the NDC members were again asked to leave and later allegedly attacked at the Uvwie Traffic-Light Junction, Ugborokoko, Jakpa Road and Urhuomarho.
According to the statement, gunshots were allegedly fired at Ugborokoko and over 100 persons reportedly injured in the incidents were receiving treatment in various hospitals in the state.

Omo-Agege claimed that during the confrontation on Jakpa Road, Collins Ogumashe, alias Black Moses, was disarmed of an AK-47 rifle by human rights activist, Efemena Umukoro and handed over to the police.
The statement further alleged that the suspect was tasked to disrupt the NDC campaigns and claimed that there was a plot to arrest Umukoro.
He called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as the chief security officer of the state to take responsibility for the security of citizens and urged the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services to investigate the attack, the alleged police inaction and the case of the apprehended suspect.
He also appealed to Delta youths not to allow themselves to be used for political violence.
“We remain committed to peaceful and issue-based campaigns,” he said, adding, “You may attack our people, but you cannot silence their voices.”
