Dr. Olusegun Bamidele Oso has been named a recipient of the Dratech Healthcare Leadership Excellence Award 2024, following his recognition at the recently concluded Dratech International Conference 2024.
The award recognises professionals whose work strengthens healthcare delivery systems across Africa through strategic leadership, sustainable financing, and measurable institutional impact.
Dr. Oso emerged as one of the top two winners in the Healthcare Leadership category after being selected from a pool of ten nominees. The judging panel cited his unique combination of clinical experience, financial expertise, and system-level leadership as central to his selection.
A medical doctor by training, Dr. Oso began his career after graduating from the University of Ibadan, where he practised in a high-demand public healthcare environment in Lagos. His early clinical work exposed him to persistent structural challenges in healthcare delivery, including infrastructure gaps, equipment shortages, and funding limitations that affected service quality and patient outcomes.
Seeking to address these systemic issues beyond the bedside, Dr. Oso transitioned into the finance and investment sector with the objective of influencing how healthcare institutions are funded, governed, and scaled. Over nearly three decades, he built extensive experience across banking, advisory services, and global professional firms, specialising in valuation, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, fundraising, and strategic financial analysis.
His work has spanned manufacturing, real estate, infrastructure, financial services, and healthcare, providing broad insight into capital deployment and its impact on essential services. This cross-sector exposure later became instrumental in structuring healthcare-focused investments that balance financial sustainability with service delivery outcomes.
A defining phase of his career has been his leadership within healthcare and impact-driven investment funds focused on Africa. In senior roles, Dr. Oso led and supported investments in hospitals, diagnostic centres, pharmaceutical distribution networks, and health insurance platforms. His responsibilities extended beyond capital deployment to governance design, strategic planning, and operational oversight of portfolio companies.
The judging panel highlighted his role in co-founding the Nigeria Healthcare Development Fund as a major milestone. The fund was established to address the shortage of structured, long-term capital available to healthcare providers in West Africa. Dr. Oso contributed to the fund’s investment framework, governance structures, and investor engagement strategy, helping to create a credible platform for institutional participation in the healthcare sector.
Beyond healthcare, Dr. Oso currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of a mobility and electric vehicle company operating across West Africa. In this role, he oversees financial strategy, capital raising, risk management, and multi-country financial operations. His work has strengthened governance standards and supported the company’s transition toward cleaner, electric mobility solutions.
He also holds board positions across insurance, healthcare, technology, and leasing companies, where he chairs or serves on audit, finance, risk, strategy, and governance committees. In addition, Dr. Oso contributes to academic and innovation ecosystems as a journal editor, peer reviewer, and judge for programmes focused on social impact, nutrition, and investment readiness.
Dr. Oso holds a medical degree from the University of Ibadan, an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, and additional training in computing and financial analysis. This multidisciplinary foundation enables him to bridge clinical, financial, regulatory, and operational perspectives effectively.
According to Dratech International, Dr. Oso’s recognition reflects his sustained influence on healthcare financing and institutional development across West Africa. His work continues to shape pathways for hospitals, diagnostic networks, and pharmaceutical systems to scale responsibly while improving access and service quality.
As preparations begin for the 2025 Dratech Innovation Awards, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to recognising leaders whose work strengthens systems and institutions across the region. Dr. Oso’s recognition sets a benchmark for multidisciplinary leadership in healthcare and investment-driven development.
