The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to deepen their love for the country by showing greater compassion to one another, saying mutual assistance and love are core values that strengthen national unity.
According to a statement signed by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs Tinubu made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, on Tuesday, describing Nigeria as a “great country” and expressing optimism about the nation’s future.
“I love Nigeria, it is a great country and there is no investment that you put in Nigeria that goes to waste,” she said. “The more I discover who we are, the more I see how blessed this nation is and I pray that the young people and the coming generation can see that this is a great nation.”
The First Lady said compassion requires godliness and practical action, noting that “it takes a lot of godliness, all it takes is for a comfortable person to help others.” She added that foreign partners’ confidence in Nigeria is a blessing.
“It is amazing how God has put us together but to now find allies from foreign countries believing in this country, is a great blessing,” she said.

Freeman lauded Mrs Tinubu’s initiatives, particularly the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), for reaching vulnerable Nigerians across sectors including agriculture, technology, healthcare, education, and women and youth empowerment.
“On behalf of the Embassy, we would be donating more wheelchairs to them,” Freeman said, announcing philanthropic and technical support. He also confirmed that Israel would donate three state-of-the-art ambulances to Nigeria’s health system and highlighted ongoing cooperation through training programmes that bring Israeli doctors to work with their Nigerian counterparts.
“For me, Nigeria has been the most incredible experience, I have had the most fantastic time and I want you to know that we are committed to the nation,” the ambassador added, citing support from his government’s leadership. “Nigeria is our partner, Nigeria is our friend and we are ready to do incredible things for our friends and partners.”
Freeman, who said he would be leaving his post in about a week, described his visit as an opportunity to “express his love for Nigeria” and to underscore that his impressions run counter to negative media narratives about the country.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Chief of Mission, Rachel Mishel Stavissky, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Bishop STV Adegbite.
