Former governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has described Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, ex-governor of old Oyo State, as incorruptible throughout his life. Olunloyo passed away on Sunday, 6 April 2025.
Ladoja, in a press statement released by Mr. Adeola Oloko on his behalf, called Olunloyo’s death the exit of a titan. He praised the late mathematician, engineer, and technocrat as a multifaceted figure who left a lasting mark. “The greatest legacy of Olunloyo’s long service record was his incorruptibility,” Ladoja said.

He noted Olunloyo’s brilliance from his time at Government College, Ibadan, through his university years in Scotland, where he became one of the youngest PhD holders of his era. Ladoja recalled a recent visit from Olunloyo two weeks ago at his Bodija, Ibadan residence. “He was on the wheelchair. I was surprised to see him. We discussed for an hour before he left. Whenever my elder brother came around, you could be sure, there would be no dull moment,” he said.
“But then, I did not have a premonition that the old Oyo State former Governor’s visit was his own way of bidding us farewell,” Ladoja added.
The Otun Olubadan extended condolences to the Olunloyo family, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, and the Olubadan-in-Council. He said Olunloyo would be deeply missed.
