Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has held a meeting with the Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, commonly known as Sunday Igboho.

Sources said the duo discussed sundry issues, including how to remove the ‘wanted’ tag placed on him by the Federal Government since 2021, freezing of his bank accounts and the insecurity plaguing Kwara South in the North-Central geo-political zone, which shares boundaries with the South West.

The sketchy details of the meeting were disclosed by Igboho’s media office, which communicated the discussions to journalists yesterday, though the meeting was held on Monday.

The declaration of Igboho as  a wanted man was made under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari. It stemmed from the allegation that Igboho was stockpiling arms and ammunition.

In a related incident, on July 1, 2021, operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), alongside military personnel, raided Igboho’s residence, resulting in the death of two aides and the arrest of 13 others.

A source close to the meeting revealed that Oba Ladoja warmly welcomed Igboho and his supporters.

The meeting took place at the monarch’s Bodija residence and lasted approximately 40 minutes, with focus on pressing issues affecting the South West region, including the menace posed by bandits in parts of Kwara State.

According to Igboho’s Media Office, Ladoja promised to lend his support to Igboho’s ongoing challenges.

During the meeting, he reportedly congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the Olubadan throne.

He recognised him as a leader deeply loved by people across Ibadan, Yorubaland and beyond.

He reiterated his willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government to bolster security in the South West, stating, “Without peace and a secured environment, no meaningful development can thrive.”

He also expressed profound respect for Oba Ladoja, noting, “Olubadan has been a father figure to me since his days as Governor of Oyo State.

“I commend Kabiyesi’s leadership qualities, humility and enduring influence. His reign as Olubadan will, no doubt, promote peace, unity and development in Ibadanland and the entire Yorubaland.”

The meeting was said to have suggested a pivotal moment for both leaders to conceptualise strategies to enhance safety and security along with fostering unity within Ibadan, Oyo State and South West.
