Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan-designate, has made his first public appearance and has been deemed fit to be enthroned as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, according to the Olubadan Advisory Council.
After the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, on Thursday March 14, this year, there has been speculation surrounding Oba Olakulehin’s health status and his ability to assume the prestigious role.
However, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, has put an end to the rumours on Friday by confirming that Oba Olakulehin is in good health.
Adebimpe, who was accompanied by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole; the Ashipa Olubadan, Abiodun Kola-Daisi; and Asipa Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola, visited the Olubadan-designate at his Alalubosa GRA residence, Aleshinloye, Ibadan on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Adebimpe expressed his relief at seeing Oba Olakulehin in person for the first time in a while.
The visit was intended to ascertain the health of Oba Olakulehin before proceeding with the coronation ceremony.
Adebimpe emphasised the importance of ensuring that the future Olubadan is active and capable before crowning him.
He assured the public that Oba Olakulehin is indeed hale and hearty, and that the coronation would take place in due course.
Confirming Oba Olakulehin’s arrival at his Alalubosa residence, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and a former governor of Oyo State, added that the nomination process for the Olubadan-designate might begin early next week.
As news of his good health spreads, visitors have flocked to Oba Olakulehin’s residence, where royal drummers were seen providing entertainment amidst celebration.
