Mr. and Mrs. Olalusi of Our Lady Mother and Queen Catholic Church, Badore, Ajah, from Lekki Region, have emerged winners of the 10th edition of the Bishop Alfred Adewale Martins Bible, Catholic Faith, Family Project and Catechism competition.
The couple won the grand prize, a Toyota Camry, after emerging victorious in the keenly contested competition, which tested participants’ knowledge of scripture, particularly the Gospel of Matthew and the Letters of St Paul, as well as Catholic catechism and doctrine.
The grand finale was recently held at St Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja, and was organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos through its Religious Education Department and Laity Council, in collaboration with the Knights of St John International, Lagos Grand Commandery.
The competition featured finalists drawn from the four regions of the Archdiocese of Lagos Ikeja, Lekki, Lagos Mainland and Badagry following preliminary contests at parish, deanery and regional levels.

The first runner-up, representing the Ikeja Region, received N1 million, while the second runner-up from the Lagos man inland Region went home with N700, 000 and a 4.5KVA Seaman generator. The third runner-up received N400, 000.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Fr. Emeka Okeke explained that the competition begins at the parish level, with successful participants progressing to the deanery and regional stages before the finalists from the four regions compete at the grand finale.
Also speaking, the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, who celebrated the Holy Mass and supervised the competition, congratulated the winners and encouraged other parishioners to participate in the annual Catholic family competition.
Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Catechisation Project, Col. Greg Ugwunze, said the initiative was conceived in response to the Church’s call for renewed evangelisation.
