A socio-cultural humanitarian group of Igbo women, Okpotokpo Adaigbo Niile Worldwide has commended Eze Ndigbo Ghana and the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Ndi Eze Ndigbo in Diaspora HRM, Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu on his recent call that Igbo president should be zoned to South East in 2023.
The group, comprising professionals, business women, Technocrats, Artisans, Entrepreneurs, women from all walks of life Quintessentially doing well in their various endeavours, living at home and in the Diaspora, equally joined the Amaigbo, Imo state-born Royal Father to endorse person of Igbo extraction from South East for the President of the Republic of Nigeria in 2023.
The position of the group was made known at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, signed by the Secretary General and National Matron of the group, Mrs Ojiugo Uju Nnoyeli and Engr Lady Ada Chukwudozie respectively.
The group renewed the geo-political zone’s demand for the Presidency of Nigeria in 2023. The message read;
“We totally endorse the Zoning of Igbo Presidency to South East in 2023 for fairness, equity and justice. The country had not been fair to the people of the South East because of their continued alienation in governance.
“Zoning Presidency to the South East will allay fears of secession as the region is more concerned about the unity of the country”. The group advised Igbo Leaders to unanimously ensure they project a personality with sterling experience in the public service, towering intellect and unassailable personal integrity.
“But more significantly, a person with the stature, global acceptability and store of goodwill across tribal and religious divides and unwavering commitment to the progress of our nation.
“We are confident that, if South East is given the opportunity to produce the President of Nigeria come 2023, the much desired new energy, direction and national purpose will be injected to the Nigeria Project.”
The group said when the nation returned to democratic governance in 1999, an agreement was reached on rotation of power between North and South and between their zones.
This, they added, has led to the production of two Presidents from the North West and one each from South West and South South, leaving out South East and the North East in the equation.
They said, “In the spirit of rotation of power, presidential power needs to return to the South East since it is the only zone yet to produce a President for the country in the present dispensation from the Southern divide.
The women added that the group plans to move round the country to engage other zones and convince them on the inherent benefits of Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.
