Flamingos–1024×683

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has celebrated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, following their qualification for the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos secured their place in the title match after overcoming Brazil 3-1, a result the governor described as a major achievement for Nigerian football.

Okpebholo said the players had given Nigerians another reason to celebrate through their performance, adding that their determination and collective effort had demonstrated the country’s competitive spirit.

He singled out Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru for their contributions to the victory but noted that the achievement was the product of the entire team’s effort, including the technical crew.

With Japan awaiting the Flamingos in Saturday’s final, the governor urged the players to approach the encounter with the same commitment and discipline that had taken them to the decisive stage of the competition.

He expressed confidence that the Nigerian side could complete its campaign by winning the trophy and making history as the country’s first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup champions.

The governor also assured the team of the support of Nigerians, particularly residents of Edo State, as they prepare for the final.

He wished the players and their coaches success, urging them to seize the opportunity to bring the title home.
