In a bid to succeed governor Hope Uzodimma, leaders, stakeholders and prominent sons and daughters of Okigwe Senatorial Zone gathered at the country home of apex leader Chief Tony Chukwu for a historic Lenten meeting that blended spiritual devotion with political strategy.
The assembly, held during the solemn season of Lent, focused on Okigwe’s collective aspiration to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2028, after the tenure of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
In his opening address, Chief Chukwu described the timing as “deeply symbolic,” noting that Lent represents sacrifice, reflection and total dependence on God. He called on Okigwe residents at home and in the diaspora to commit the 2028 governorship project to divine hands through a three‑day fasting and prayer programme scheduled for 25‑27 February 2026.
The proposal received unanimous endorsement from attendees, who affirmed that Okigwe deserves the governorship and that divine intervention remains central to its realization.
Former Governor Chief Ikedi Ohakim who was also in attendance expressed appreciation for Chief Chukwu’s consistency in championing the Okigwe cause and urged unity among all Okigwe sons and daughters.

He emphasized sincere prayers, stating confidently that “God remains faithful to His people.” The gathering also commended Governor Uzodimma for his leadership, infrastructural strides and goodwill toward Okigere.
Resolutions adopted at the summit included: Praying for God to touch Governor Uzodimma’s heart to support Okigwe’s 2028 bid,seeking divine intervention to secure the understanding and backing of Owerri and Orlu zones,
promoting unity among Okigwe sons and daughters,asking for a change of heart for anyone working against the zone’s collective interest and seeking God’s face as the ultimate source of strength and success for the project.
A motion to adopt the resolutions was moved by Rt. Hon. Miriam Onuoha and seconded by Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins. The spiritual high point was an exhortation and prayer session led by Okigwe clergy.
Dignitaries who spoke included Chief Cosmas Iwu (Secretary to the State Government),HRM Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe (Chairman, Okigwe Global Elders Forum),Chief Longers Anyanwu,Dr. PrincessGloria Akobundu and Ezechi Chukwu,Publicity Secretary, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide among others.
The event concluded on a note of unity, faith and renewed determination, as leaders reaffirmed their commitment to pursue the 2028 governorship aspiration with love, solidarity, strategic engagement, constructive conversation and unwavering trust in God.
