The candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Jideovo Okekenweje, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major federal road projects linking Anambra State with neighbouring states.
Okekenweje gave the commendation in a statement, describing the President’s approval of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, linking Anambra State to Kogi State and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, connecting Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, as a major intervention that would help address the South-East’s long-standing infrastructure deficit.
He noted that the approvals followed engagements between President Tinubu and Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on July 1. He also praised Governor Soludo, whom he described as “Oguguo Akwa” Anambra West, for his efforts in attracting critical federal infrastructure projects to the state.
“I commend President Tinubu for this laudable initiative. These roads will undoubtedly open up our communities, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and stimulate economic activities across the South-East and neighbouring regions.
“This demonstrates that when a government is genuinely committed to meeting the needs of its people, meaningful development is achievable,” he said.
While applauding the road approvals, the NNPP House of Representatives hopeful urged President Tinubu to extend the same level of commitment to tackling the perennial flooding that devastates riverine communities in Anambra East and Anambra West Local Government Areas.

According to him, residents of the constituency lose billions of Naira annually as floodwaters destroy farmlands, homes, businesses and other means of livelihood, forcing thousands of people to abandon their communities for months.
“While we appreciate the road projects, I make a passionate and urgent appeal to President Tinubu to take decisive action on the dredging of the River Niger or the construction of a dam to permanently save our people in Anambra East and West from this annual disaster.
“Our people are tired of counting their losses every year. This is not rocket science; it is a matter of political will and priority,” he said
He maintained that the approval of the road projects had shown that governments could deliver lasting infrastructure when there was the determination to do so. He expressed optimism that the Federal Government would also prioritise permanent flood-control measures for the riverine constituency.
He further pledged that, if elected to the House of Representatives, he would make the dredging of the River Niger and the pursuit of sustainable flood-control projects a major legislative priority, while advocating policies aimed at protecting lives, safeguarding livelihoods and unlocking the economic potential of Anambra East and West Federal Constituency.
