Jessica Oji marked her debut under the Nigerian flag with a strong performance at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, finishing second in the women’s Shot Put, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Oji, who recently switched her sporting allegiance from the United States to Nigeria, recorded a best throw of 17.74m to secure a podium finish in her first outing representing the West African nation.

The talented thrower’s performance signals a promising start to her international career with Nigeria as she looks to make a major impact on the global stage.

Oji currently boasts a Personal Best of 18.45m, a mark that places her within touching distance of continental history.

Her PB is two centimetres better than the long-standing African Record of 18.43m set by former Nigerian thrower Vivian Chukwuemeka.

With her proven pedigree and upward trajectory, Oji’s switch of allegiance could prove a significant boost for Nigeria’s athletics programme as she targets bigger championships in the season ahead.
