Oil magnate, Sholaye Jeremi bids mum grand farewell

The quiet embrace of Sapele, Delta State roared to life last weekend—29 to 31 August— as billionaire businessman, Sholaye Jeremi laid to rest his beloved mother Madam Lilian Jeremi. The oil magnate did so with grace and grandeur befitting his stature as an accomplished son who owed his success to the matriarch who instilled in him the virtues of faith, generosity and love.

Madam Jeremi died on May 14, 2024, at the age of 74. And her funeral was indeed a grand affair and a celebration of a life well-lived by a woman who touched every soul she met with grace and compassion. Jeremi was a perfect host to several dignitaries who stormed Sapele for the funeral which started on the evening of Thursday 29 August with a service of songs at the deceased’s Sapele residence. The following day, Friday 30 August, a memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church in Sapele where the deceased was a devout member. Friends and family paid their final respects in the place of worship, filled with heartfelt tributes, hymns and prayers. Afterward, a reception shifted to the Athletic Club in GRA Sapele where all the guests were entertained. At the reception, it was a showcase of the culture and tradition of Sapele people and an opportunity for Jeremi to prove the bond he shared with his mother —a bond forged in love, strengthened by faith, and immortalized in memory.
