The Ogun State chapter of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has endorsed the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governorship candidacy of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The endorsement was announced when the chapter’s President, Eze Stephen Okorie, led a five-man delegation on a courtesy visit to Senator Adeola over the weekend.
Okorie told the senator that the group will confer on him the chieftaincy title of “Dike Eji Eje Mba.” He said the installation, scheduled for the end of the month in Abeokuta, will also serve as the occasion for an open endorsement of the senator and a declaration of Igbo support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
He disclosed that he has already installed five campaign billboards for President Tinubu and Senator Adeola across the state on behalf of the Igbo community, and has produced numerous campaign materials for the senator.
Okorie, who said he has lived in Owode-Yewa in Yewa South Local Government Area for 36 years, explained the basis for the decision.
“We have been watching the politics and development in Ogun State,” he said. “Based on the massive development that Senator Adeola has attracted to Ogun State in the last three years, particularly in the areas of market infrastructure and road construction to promote trade and commerce, the Igbos have no hesitation in endorsing the Senator for Governor of Ogun State.”
Senator Adeola thanked the delegation for the gesture. He said the Igbo community in Lagos had also supported his political journey, noting that the Eze Ndi Igbo in Lagos conferred on him the title of “Dike Di Ora Nma” of Lagos State.
“My brand of politics is politics of inclusion and delivery of good governance for all the people,” he said. “When roads, schools, hospitals and other infrastructures are constructed, it is for the good of all, and all law abiding Nigerians are welcome to do business and make progress in Ogun State.”
Among those present at the visit were the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate in Ogun State, Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun; the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Kunle Salako; the Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Laolu Olabimtan; the APC Senatorial Candidate for Ogun West, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele; and other APC candidates.
