The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, has declared its total support for the President-General (PG) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, in his efforts to unite Ndigbo across Nigeria.
In a communique issued by the General Assembly of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, at the weekend, and signed by its Secretary-General, Chief Robert Obasi, the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, among other resolutions, condemned what it described as derogatory publications against the PG by some individuals.
The General Assembly resolved that the individuals involved be immediately suspended from all activities and engagements of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos.
While acknowledging that elections are due to be conducted in Lagos State, the group expressed its full support for the Chief Azuta Mbata-led Global Executive Council in conducting a constitutionally compliant election in the state.

“In the meantime, following the subsisting court order maintaining the status quo ante bellum, Chief Robert Obasi and other duly recognised officers of the state, as well as all sitting Local Government Chairmen will continue to function in their respective offices, pending the final determination of the matter before the competent court of law,” the communique stated.
The General Assembly reaffirmed that the only election it would recognise and accept is one conducted under the authority and approval of the Enugu leadership, in accordance with the constitution and established procedures of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
Speaking on the resolution, the Coordinator, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Southwest and Personal Assistant to the PG of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Everest Ozonweke, described the General Assembly meeting as a significant step towards peacefully resolving the administrative challenges in the Lagos chapter of the association.
“We have taken similar steps in Ondo, Osun, and Ogun. I am optimistic that this move, under the directive of our PG, Chief Mbata, will restore permanent peace in the leadership of Ohanaeze Lagos Chapter,” Ozonweke said.
