The annual Ebonyi North Senatorial District Football Unity Cup tagged “Ohamadike Super League” will kick off December 14.
The tournament will be held at the Mbeke DC field in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
According to the sponsor, Senator, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip representing Ebonyi North, the tournament is part of the efforts to curb social disorderliness in the district. “It is our desire to work towards preventing youth restiveness and curbing social disorderliness in Ebonyi North Senatorial District in particular and Ebonyi State at large.
“However, we don’t wish to see our youths engage in acts capable of endangering their future, hence we’re looking for a way to help out and since sports and football in particular have that power of attraction and fellowship, that’s why we’re organising the tournament,” he said.
The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Hon. Chidi Ogbonna stated that the tournament is first of its kind in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
He thanked Senator Nwebonyi for providing enormous support for his constituency.
About four Local Government Areas in Ebonyi North Senatorial District- Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu- will compete in the tournament, according to the Head of Technical, Coach Uwah Cyprian, a former coach of Ebonyi Angels Football Club.
