•Urges next NBBF President to involve veterans
A former Nigeria national basketball team member, Kingsley Ogwudire has issued an emotional appeal for healing and unity in the sport, calling on the next President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) to rebuild trust and reconnect with the players who laid the game’s foundation.
Speaking on Real Talk With Kingsley Ogwudire, he said the camaraderie that once defined the national team has faded.
“There was a time when we loved playing for Nigeria because we genuinely enjoyed being together. There was real brotherhood among us. Even when we disagreed or had disputes, the love for one another and, most importantly, the love for our country remained,” he said.
“Today, too much of that spirit seems to have been lost. Nigerian basketball needs healing, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose.”
He urged everyone who loves the game to rally behind a common cause: “Please, let’s save Nigeria Basketball. Let’s bring back the love.”
With the NBBF presidency up for grabs, he said the incoming leader must look beyond administration, competitions and results.
“The next NBBF President must understand that rebuilding Nigerian basketball is not only about administration, competitions, or results. It is also about rebuilding relationships, restoring trust, and reconnecting with the veterans and former national team players who helped build the foundation,” he said.
He called on the next administration to tap the experience of the old guard.
“Please seek the advice, experience, and wisdom of our veterans. Bring everyone back to the table. Let’s put personal differences aside and remember why we started playing in the first place, for the love of the game and for Nigeria.”
He closed with a rallying cry: “It is time to restore the brotherhood. It is time to restore the pride. It is time to bring the love of country back.”
