The newly-elected leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Ogun State Chapter, has expressed gratitude to Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of education in the state.
This was conveyed in a Saturday statement signed by Chairman, NAUS, Ogun State chapter, Comrade Araba Muhammed Okanlawon.
The student body particularly commended the governor for the historic and strategic transfer of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) to the Federal Government, saying this milestone reflected a proactive approach to strengthening institutional capacity, improving funding access, enhancing academic standards, and ensuring long-term sustainability for the benefit of students, staff, and the broader educational ecosystem.
Ogun NAUS further applauded the governor’s continued investments in infrastructural development, policy reforms, and progressive initiatives aimed at improving the quality, stability, and global competitiveness of tertiary institutions across Ogun State.
The statement reads, “We also extend our commendation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his student-centered educational reforms, particularly the establishment and implementation of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund).
“This policy has significantly improved access to higher education, eased financial burdens on students and families, and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to human capital development.
“We further recognise the administration’s broader educational policies that continue to positively impact learning outcomes and institutional growth nationwide.”
Ogun NAUS equally expressed profound appreciation to the immediate past leadership of the association led by Comrade Adeyemi Boluwatife Opeyemi, alongside other dedicated executives.
It said their service, advocacy, and commitment to student welfare laid a strong foundation upon which the new excos are now building.
“We acknowledge their sacrifices, leadership, and contributions to strengthening student representation and engagement in Ogun State,” it said.
The Okanlawon-led leadership promised to commit to constructive engagement, responsible advocacy, and the protection of Ogun university students.
“As we assume office, we reaffirm our commitment to constructive engagement, responsible advocacy, and the protection of the academic and socio-economic interests of university students in Ogun State.
“However, we respectfully call on both the Federal and Ogun State Governments to increase subvention and funding for tertiary institutions.
“Improved financial support is critical to addressing infrastructural deficits, enhancing research capacity, improving staff welfare, expanding student support services, and sustaining quality education in line with global best practices.
“We remain committed to partnering with government, institutional authorities, and relevant stakeholders to foster an enabling academic environment that promotes excellence, innovation, and sustainable development,” the body further stated.
