The Ogun State Police Command has hosted more than 150 students of the National Association of Crime Management Students (NACRIMS), Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Chapter, at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where they were sensitised on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and other social vices.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the educational excursion formed part of the Command’s efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and tertiary institutions.
The delegation, which included lecturers and supervisors from the Department of Crime Management, was received by the State Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, who gave an overview of the Command’s operational structure and its collaborative policing strategy.
During an interactive session, ASP Opeyemi educated the students on the dangers of cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, violent extremism and other emerging criminal threats through the POCACOV initiative, the Nigeria Police Force’s flagship non-kinetic crime prevention programme.
He emphasised the values of integrity, discipline, responsible leadership and community partnership, urging the students to become ambassadors of peace and advocates of the anti-crime campaign within their campuses and host communities.

At the end of the sensitisation programme, the students collectively pledged to reject cultism, drug abuse and all forms of criminality while embracing academic excellence and sound moral values.
The Command’s Legal Officer, ASP Saheed Abdulganiyu, also delivered a lecture on police investigative procedures and Nigeria’s criminal justice system, explaining the processes involved in receiving complaints, conducting investigations, protecting suspects’ constitutional rights, preserving evidence and prosecuting criminal cases before competent courts.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, officers of the Command reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening partnerships with educational institutions, noting that sustained engagement with young people remains a vital strategy for crime prevention and public trust building.
The Head of the Department of Crime Management, Adeoye K.T., and the President of NACRIMS, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Chapter, Makinde Ridwan Ayomide, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and the Ogun State Police Command for the warm reception and enriching learning experience.
They described the excursion as highly impactful, saying it had broadened the students’ understanding of modern policing, crime prevention and criminal justice administration in Nigeria.
