Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a plot to kidnap a Chinese national.
The syndicate had allegedly planned to demand a ransom of N50 million before the plot was uncovered.
Two suspects, including an insider in the company where the Chinese national works, have been arrested in connection with the plot. The insider allegedly used his position as an interpreter and driver to facilitate the planned abduction.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, identified the suspects as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37.

He said they were arrested on June 9, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. following credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer indicating an imminent kidnapping plot along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.
“The DPO immediately mobilised operatives, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis, where the suspects were intercepted and arrested, thereby thwarting the execution of the planned crime before it could be carried out.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects conspired to abduct the Chinese national and extort a ransom of N50 million. Investigators further established that Onwuemena, who worked within the company as an interpreter and driver, allegedly exploited his privileged access to facilitate the criminal plot, a development that has raised fresh concerns about insider threats to the safety of foreign nationals working in the state.
“The suspects, however, did not act alone. Investigators established that a third accomplice is currently at large, and detectives are on his trail. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.”
Babaseyi added that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and swift response of the operatives of Obalende Division and acknowledged the importance of timely intelligence in preventing what could have been a serious kidnapping incident.
