Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command have busted an alleged illegal baby factory at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children in the process.
The operation also led to the arrest of six suspects, identified as Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Idaya. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as police intensify investigations into the alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities reportedly taking place at the facility.
The command, in a statement yesterday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the operation was conducted on August 24, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., following sustained intelligence gathering.
According to the statement, operatives stormed the syndicate’s hideout located on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, where preliminary investigations revealed that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had allegedly been systematically carried out over time.
During the raid, the police rescued two pregnant women, identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant.
Four young children, comprising two males and two females, were also rescued from the facility.
The command said further intelligence-led follow-up operations took operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026.
The police said while the mother was found receiving medical treatment at the hospital, the whereabouts of her newborn baby could not be established, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse to assist investigators in locating the missing infant.

The statement added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
It said the investigation would seek to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and ensure that every suspect found culpable is prosecuted.
The command assured members of the public that they would be kept informed of further developments in the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operational efficiency and prompt response of the Mowe Division operatives.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to stamping out human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
The CP assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across Ogun State.
Members of the public were encouraged to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Gateway Shield toll-free line.
