The Ogun State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified efforts to rescue victims abducted from a private hostel in the Ipara area of the state on Wednesday night.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said security operatives swung into action immediately the distress report was received.
According to him, “The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the abduction incident at a private hostel in the Ipara area on the night of Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
“Immediately the distress report was received, the Police and other security agencies activated a coordinated operational response, deploying tactical teams and intelligence assets to the area. Rescue operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible.”
The police spokesman appealed to parents, students and members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardise the ongoing rescue operation.
“The Command appeals to parents, students and the general public to remain calm and disregard any misinformation capable of undermining the ongoing operations.
“Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious persons or activities to the Police,” he added.
The Command assured residents that every available resource is being deployed to secure the victims’ release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Lagos clerics pray for peace, security ahead of 2027 election

The Council of Chief Imams in Lagos State has held a special prayer session for peace, unity and security across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

The clerics also prayed for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, Dr. Kadiri Hamzat.
Speaking during the prayer session organised by the Ikeja Division of the Council, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Islamic Matters, Dr. Abdulahi Jebe, said it was important to seek God’s intervention ahead of major national events.
According to him, Nigerians desire a free, fair and peaceful election, adding that sustained prayers and public sensitisation would help achieve that objective.
“As we move ahead for the next campaign and election, we are appealing to everybody to perform their civic rights and do the needful by being obedient to constituted authority. We must continue to ask God for guidance and forgiveness so that God can ease our affairs,” he said.
Also speaking, the National Director-General of the Grassroots Movement for Bola Tinubu, Hon. Bisi Yusuf, described the prayer initiative as timely and commendable, stressing that prayers remain essential for national peace and development.
“Prayer is the most important thing in human life. For our Grand Imams and the large gathering here today to organise this prayer for the nation, for peace to reign and for national development, especially for our father, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is highly commendable,” he said.
The Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaiman Abu Nola, underscored the importance of prayer and urged Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to actively participate in the electoral process.
“Besides, we are mobilising our people to fulfil their civic responsibility by collecting their Permanent Voter Cards and participating in the election. We Muslims must also participate because it is our civic responsibility.
“We also need to continue praying for our nation because love for one’s country is part of faith. Today’s prayer is our contribution to the peace, progress, development and prosperity of Nigeria,” he said.
Host of the event and Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Mr. Hakeem Dauda, commended the organisers for promoting patriotism and providing spiritual support for the nation’s leaders, especially President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Kadiri Hamzat.
He urged Lagos residents and Nigerians to embrace patriotism and support initiatives that would foster peace, unity and national development.
