Police commence operation “Kosaye” in Ogun, Lagos, arrest 88 suspects

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for initiating the joint Ogun-Lagos security operation, Operation Kosaye, saying the initiative has strengthened security, disrupted criminal networks and restored public confidence across the two states.

The governor said the intelligence-driven operation had recorded significant successes through coordinated security operations that saw operatives comb forests and criminal hideouts along the Ogun-Lagos corridor, neutralise armed bandits, arrest criminal suspects and rescue kidnapped victims.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun said the achievements recorded under Operation Kosaye had helped restore public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force while reinforcing the commitment of security agencies to safeguarding lives and property.

According to him, the sustained offensive against criminal elements has made Ogun and Lagos states increasingly hostile to kidnappers, bandits and other violent criminals who had attempted to use the shared border communities as safe havens.

Abiodun said the operation had demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-state collaboration in combating crime.

“Operation Kosaye is a bold, proactive and intelligence-driven initiative that has significantly strengthened security across Ogun and Lagos states. The successes recorded have restored public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and reinforced the commitment of our security agencies to the protection of lives and property,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through sustained investment in logistics, operational mobility and technology to improve policing across Ogun State.

“Our administration will continue to provide the logistics, operational support and technology required to strengthen policing and enhance the effectiveness of security operations. Sustained investment in security infrastructure and surveillance technology remains central to our commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” he said.

The governor also commended the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos states, CP Bode Ojajuni and CP Tijani Fatai, as well as officers and men participating in Operation Kosaye, for their professionalism, courage and dedication to duty.

He said the operation had demonstrated that intelligence sharing, collaboration and coordinated inter-state action remain essential in addressing emerging security threats.

“The operation has shown that criminal elements can only be effectively defeated when security agencies work seamlessly across jurisdictional boundaries. This model of collaboration should be embraced by other states of the federation,” Abiodun said.

He urged state governments across the country to establish similar collaborative security frameworks capable of denying criminals the opportunity to exploit state boundaries.

The governor reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains a cardinal objective of his administration and assured residents of continued support for security agencies to sustain the gains recorded under Operation Kosaye.

Meanwhile, environmentalist Mark Chidozie corroborated the governor’s position, urging the IGP to replicate the operation across the country.

“The strategy of combating kidnapping by combing forests is the best. I was surprised to see a large number of police officers combing forests along the Ogun corridor. I followed the operation to its logical conclusion. My greatest joy is that it produced results. I saw the police rescue kidnapped victims while another team brought out many suspects, including women, from the bush. What would those women be doing there?

“The IGP should sustain the good work and replicate it in other states. If the momentum is maintained, there will be no hiding place for terrorists and other criminal elements in our forests and on our roads,” he said.
