Ogun female activists move against GBV, ritual killings with awareness walk

Association of Female Comrades

In a historic pushback against gender-based violence, femicide, and ritual killings, the Association of Female Comrades, Ogun State Chapter on Saturday held a Community Awareness Walk in Sagamu.

From early hours, the streets filled with passionate women, men, and young people, all united by a common cause: to raise their voices and take a stand against violence threatening women, girls, and vulnerable members of society.

Participants, dressed in symbolic white outfits, moved through Sagamu’s major streets with determination and conviction.

Armed with colourfully-designed placards and banners, the community chanted heartily, with echoes of “No More Silence, No More Violence”, “Protect Women, Protect Life,” billowing through the nooks and crannies of the ancient community.

The walk became a moving billboard of change, capturing the attention of curious residents, traders, and passersby.

Coordinator, Association of Female Comrades, Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Olaitan Elizabeth Babalola disclosed that the awareness walk was not just a march but a movement with a message.

She declared that gender-based violence in any form would no longer be tolerated, noting that the walk was an action to break the silence, challenge harmful norms, and reaffirm the truth that safety and dignity are rights, not privileges.

Babalola said, “The Association of Female Comrades, Ogun State Chapter, stands firmly against gender-based violence, femicide, domestic abuse, and ritual killings. These are not isolated crimes; they are attacks on humanity, on families, and on the future of our society.

“This walk represents our collective decision to break the silence and to demand accountability.

“We affirm that no woman, no girl, and no family should live under the shadow of fear. We call on leaders, institutions, and every member of the community to rise and take responsibility for ending this scourge. Our stand is firm, our voices are strong, and our resolve is unshakable: together, we will fight until justice, peace, and dignity prevail in our land.”

The coordinator stressed that  Sagamu has spoken, Ogun State has heard, and Nigeria must respond: violence against women and girls must end, and justice must prevail.
